OL Still High on UM

Ft. Bend (Texas) Hightower standout offensive lineman Tyrone Byrd said he's pretty excited the way his season's been progressing.

"We're doing really good," Byrd said. "Really good. We're 2-2 and made some young mistakes in our two losses but we're starting to peak at the right time. I've been playing just offensive tackle and nobody (on defense) has been doing much on my side."

Byrd, 6-5 and 255 pounds, said he's been so focused on the season that he hasn't devoted much time to recruiting.

"The recruiting stuff has been coming along really well," he said. "I'm so busy during the week with school stuff and practice that I don't get a chance to talk to all the coaches that call here each week. My mom talks to a lot of them instead."

One of the schools that has been communicating with mom is Miami.

"I have talked to them here and there," he said. "Usually my mom talks to them when they call. They know I had a great time at camp and I'm very interested. They wanted to see my senior tape. Miami's one of the schools that I'm going to try to visit after the season."

The talented offensive lineman said he's still considering several other programs that call each week -- UCLA, Iowa, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma State are among them.

"I'll make sure to go on my visits," he said. "I won't know who my favorites are until I take those trips but I've been to Miami before and I was very impressed. They're high on my list."
