TE Will Visit UM

At 6-foot-7 and 225 pounds, Longview, Texas standout tight end Tate Casey has been enjoying his senior season so far.

"We're 4-0 and we're really starting to come together," Casey said. "We start districts this week so I'm pretty excited about that. We have a young quarterback so winning has been great. I've only had a couple catches as a result and I don't care. As long as we win."

Casey, a full academic qualifier, is one of the top tight end prospects in the state of Texas this season. However, he recently got some bad news from the University of Texas coaches.

"UT is one of the schools that I've liked," he said. "I have spoken to Coach Mack Brown before, I've been there. They recently called me though and told me they're low on scholarships and said the only way they'll be able to get me in is by bringing me on a baseball scholarship where I can walk on to the football team. That's not going to work, though."

That idea won't work because Casey has several other options on the football field.

"Recruiting has been going great," he said. "I'm going to LSU for an official visit this weekend," he said. "The week after that, I'm going to Arkansas for my visit there. After that will be Miami but we're still trying to set that one up. I've been talking to Coach Stoops and Chud. I'd like to take that visit before their season ends so we'll need to discuss the details on that. I know a bunch of my buddies are going there for a baseball trip sometime soon and I'd like to go that same weekend."

Casey, who also takes weekly calls from schools like UCLA and Texas Tech, said he's looking forward to those three visits.

"I can't wait," he said. "It'll give me a good idea of what each program is like. I'm really excited about them. Those are my top choices right now. I'll just have to wait and see what happens."

The Hurricanes are definitely in the picture, according to Casey.

"Miami's right there," he said. "Their program speaks for itself and they do a great job with the tight end. We have a house on the lake in Brownwood and Kirby Freeman lives about a half mile from there. I've talked to him before but I haven't since he committed to Miami. I'm going to try to get his number so I can start talking to him."
