LB Looking Elsewhere

Miami (Fla.) Edison standout linebacker Brouce Mompremier has helped lead a stingy Edison defense to a 4-1 start this season. In those five games, the talented linebacker has a team-high 54 tackles, including a dozen for a loss.

At 6-feet and 210 pounds, Mompremier is enjoying the season up to this point.

"We're starting to put it together," he said. "Ever since we lost to Killian, we've been getting better. I just want to be part of a state championship and that's my biggest concern right now."

Another aspect of Mompremier's life involves the recruiting process right now, as he's one of the state's top linebacker prospects. He's hearing from several schools on a regular basis.

"They'd be LSU, N.C. State, Ohio State, Florida State, Michigan State, and Kansas," he said of his current favorites. "I'll pick five of them out to visit. LSU and Ohio State stand out the most but Florida State's been coming on real strong lately, they've been calling a lot."

Mompremier and some of his teammates recently took an unofficial visit to Ohio State.

"We went to a game there," he said. "It's amazing what some people write. I read a headline on the Internet that said, 'Mompremier talks about visit' when I never talked to anyone about it. It was fun though, we got a chance to see the players up close and watch a game. The game was kind of boring because it was a blowout."

The talented linebacker said one program that hasn't been calling him lately is Miami.

"I never get a call from them anymore," he said. "I don't know why. They still call (offensive lineman) Richard (Clebert). I guess they've found better players. They probably have 1,000 kids wanting to go to there so that's cool with me. I have some nice offers and I'm going to take some visits to see where I feel most comfortable."

Mompremier is a full academic qualifier and has written offers from all six of his listed favorites.
