RB Made Trip to Tallahassee

Just hours after his team won on Friday night, Reserve (La.) East Saint John standout running back Derron Thomas decided to make the trip to Tallahassee to watch the FSU/Miami game.

Thomas, who ran for 186 yards and five touchdowns giving him over 1,500 yards of total offense with 16 touchdowns, made the trip with some of his family members.

"Me, my dad, my cousin, and two uncles went to the game," he said. "It was about a six hour trip. It was raining a lot when we got there. I saw some guys like Xavier Lee and Early Doucet."

The talented running back said he had fun watching the game, despite the rain.

"It was a great game," he said. "I saw Vegas (Franklin) on the sidelines. It wasn't very close, though. The score could have been a lot worse than it was. Miami totally shut down Greg Jones and Florida State's offense. Miami came to play and played a great game. Jarrett Payton was running hard and he was ready to play."

Thomas, who lists UM and FSU as his co-favorites, is still waiting on a scholarship offer from Miami. He feels good about his chances.

"Coach CJ called me last night," he said. "He was telling me about the game and stuff. He said he wants me."

As reported on this site last week, Thomas plans on taking an official visit to Miami after the season.

"I'm gonna visit Michigan, Miami, Florida State, and then probably Nebraska and Colorado," he said. "I'm gonna try visiting Michigan the same weekend as Charlie Jones (Dec. 12) but the state championship game is that weekend so I don't know yet."
