Gutierrez Trims List

California quarterback Matt Gutierrez has been wide open since he began the recruiting process. Now he's starting to trim his list. He talks about his season, the recruiting process, and talks about the status of the University of Miami in this exclusive interview with grassy.com.

At 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, Gutierrez has played in three games this season. He's thrown for 510 yards and four touchdowns and he's also added four rushing touchdowns. His team plays a huge game this Friday against Long Beach Poly. Gutierrez is a full academic qualifier.

Which schools have been calling you this month: A lot of them. I've started narrowing things down some. I got calls from all the ones in my top five - Oregon, Michigan, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Florida. Other ones include UCLA, both Arizona schools, Washington, Washington State, and I've also had some contact with Florida State.

What about Miami: I'm not considering them anymore because they have a quarterback already committed.

That's where I'll end it. Personally, this isn't a major surprise. When we got our apparent top guy in Marc Guillon, I figured that was it for Gutierrez. He didn't mention Miami among those still recruiting him, and seems to be focused on a final five. It sounds like that's more the case here as one of the schools in his final 5 also has a QB commitment (Chris Olsen to Notre Dame) and that doesn't seem to bother him. But either way, I think it's safe to scratch Matt's name off the list of possibles.
