Darrell McClover Q&A

Darrell McClover is a senior linebacker from Coconut Creek and has been the starting strong-side linebacker this season. McClover has played in 35 career games mostly on special teams. This season he earned his first career start against Florida and relishes the role he has had this year.

McClover truly enjoys being a Hurricane and his dream has come true. He took time to answer questions about the team and his senior season.

What were your thoughts on how you guys played against Florida State?

We always rise to the occasion. We perform the way we are supposed to perform. That's how it's always been.

How were you guys able to stop Greg Jones and the Florida State rushing game?

We went out there and played fundamental football. We knew who they have and what we had to do to stop them.

How much do you guys pay attention to what people say concerning playing better?

We really don't pay attention to that. We know we have to play better against Florida State. We know we have to run. We know we should play the way we are capable of playing.

How important is it for the team to carry over the success against Florida State over to the game against Temple?

It is very important for us. We have to be really focused on Temple and not being one of the teams that are getting upset. We are taking things one game at a time. We don't want to look in the past, only in the future.

You are starting for the first time in your career, how has your senior year been going for you personally?

Finally getting a chance to play and start is great. It's exciting for me having been here for four years. I am looking forward to the rest of the season.

What are you going to miss the most about the University of Miami?

The camaraderie of the team. I was just thinking about that the other day. The last home game against Rutgers I am really going to feel it. I am going to miss it. I am going to miss being around the coaches and the guys.

What is your most memorable moment of your career?

The win against Florida State. Being a senior and being in the game early and actually getting a chance to make a play. I have been dreaming about that since I was a kid. I finally got that chance to do that this year.

How did your family react to the game against Florida State?

My family was there, my sister and my brothers. It was very exciting for them. My dad was very happy.

How are the guys on special teams?

We have a lot of guys out there who want to play special teams. We take pride in special teams and we want to play at a high level.

How would you assess the performance of the linebackers this season?

I think the leadership on the defense is mainly on the linebackers. They expect a lot out of us because we are all seniors and we know the defense. We have to bring the younger guys up and help them so we can be the best defense we can be. We know we want to win the championship and go out with a bang.

How do you help the younger guys in practice?

We got out there and make sure they are doing the little things like pursuing and chasing the ball. The little things so they can be better fundamentally.
