Standout DL Schedules Miami Visit

The University of Miami continues to do very well in recruiting top flight defensive linemen. I spoke to one of those prospects last night. The talented lineman talks about his season, his visit schedule, and the recruiting process in general in this exclusive interview with

Orange, N.J. defensive tackle Jason Alford was one of the top performers at the Penn State summer camp back in July. The talented tackle checked in at 6-foot-3 and 260 pounds. He says he has his 40-time down around a 4.8-flat. Inside the classroom, he's solid with a 3.0 GPA and 820 SAT score. In four games this season, Alford has 30 tackles and four sacks.

Which schools have been calling you this month: Miami, Penn State, Michigan State, Auburn, Suyracuse, Virginia, and Rutgers.

Which of those schools have sent you scholarship offers: They all have now.

If signing day were tomorrow, what's it looking like: A few schools stick out, but I am putting all the recruiting stuff off until after the season. My main focus is to finish the season strong.

Have you scheduled any official visits: I visit Virginia on the 20th of this month. I visit Miami on the 21st of December. Rutgers will be the week before that. I will also probably visit Penn State for my final visit.

Talk about Miami: I went to the Penn State game. Miami played a great game, I was really impressed. I really like Miami right now.

Personally, this is one that I feel is definitely within reach. An interesting note, I am pretty sure Baraka Atkins is visiting Virginia on October 20. I think playing so well in front of Alford at Penn State really helped Miami's chances. We've done really well in recruiting defensive linemen from New Jersey in recent years and it sounds like Alford is clearly a major prospect this year.
