Jarrell Weaver Q&A

Jarrell Weaver is a senior linebacker from Northwestern High School in Miami. Weaver is one of the fastest guys on the team and is a standout on special teams. Currently Weaver is the leader on special teams leader board in which points are awarded by the coaching staff based on the performance. He blocked a punt against Florida State, which helped set the stage for the 22-14 victory.

How is your senior season going so far?

It's going pretty well. I came in knowing what my role was on the team. So far I think I have played up to my potential and I'm doing what I can to help the team win.

Can you explain the huge blocked punt against Florida State?

Coach Stoops set it up. When they jumped offside, I guess they may have thought we were going to come back out to hold them up. The right tackle kind of set back on me, I gave him a swim move and went right by him.

What did it feel like?

It felt pretty good. I felt I was due for a big play. I was just waiting for it to happen. It felt pretty good though at Doak Campbell in front of all the fans.

Can you explain your role on special teams?

I feel I am one of the leaders on special teams. This is my fifth year here, my fourth year on special teams. I am one of the guys that have been here when the program started to get back going. I was there when we went to the Gator Bowl, then the Sugar Bowl. The last couple of years we have been playing in the National Championship game. Just being around and having all the experience on special teams makes me more of a leader.

Have you thought about what you will miss the most after leaving the University of Miami?

The camaraderie that we share as a team. Of course when you get to the next level its totally different, it's business. Most guys aren't that close. That's what I will miss the most.

Who are some of the guys on the team that you are close to?

I am real close with Darrell McClover and D.J. Williams. Those are the two guys who I am with most of the time.
