Jones Talks UM/FSU

Orlando (Fla.) Edgewater standout defensive tackle Aaron Jones had a huge performance in a 34-0 win over Dr. Phillips. He finished the game with a couple sacks, a caused fumble, and several tackles for a loss.

"They couldn't block me," Jones said. "No matter what they did, I got 'em. I was at the Orlando Touchdown Club getting presented with the Defensive Player of the Week Award tonight. It was nice."

At 6-3 and 270 pounds, Jones is one of the state's top defensive tackle prospects. He recently took an unofficial visit to Florida State along with teammate Kenny Ingram for the Miami game.

"I had fun," he said. "It was real rainy and wet but I had fun going to and watching the game. Those are my two favorite schools so it gave me a chance to watch them both."

Jones offered up some comments on the game.

"You know how Sunshine Network shows old Florida State games from back in the day," he said. "I watch those and see how good they look, how they destroy teams. People like Chris Weinke, he was bad in college. They're missing that this year. Miami came to play. The rain on the field probably bothered both teams but Miami came to play."

Jones, whose 13-year old brother is a member of the national champion 4x1 relay team for that age group, said he spent some of the game watching the defensive line play from both teams.

"Miami's guys were getting pressure," he said. "Even though he didn't play much, Bryan Pata looked good. I can't believe he's only a freshman. All those guys got pressure. Florida State, I don't know. They said the rain was a factor but I dont know."

Jones said the game didn't change his opinion in any way of the two programs. He still lists them both as co-favorites.

"They're still right even with each other," he said. "I won't know any more till after my visits. When I go to Miami, I'll probably chill with (my cousin) Brandon (Meriweather) and Ryan Moore. He's my homeboy too."

Jones has scholarship offers from both programs and is a full academic qualifier.
