DE Will Visit UM

One of the major reasons why Greenbelt (Md.) Roosevelt has a defense that many consider the best in the state is defensive end Derrick Harvey. The 6-4, 228-pound defensive end has helped his team to a 7-0 start this season.

"We've been playing really good lately," Harvey said. "The first few games we allowed a couple touchdowns but we now have four straight shutouts. I'm having fun out there. I got about 80 tackles and 24 sacks so far."

With two games remaining in the regular season, Harvey is chasing the state's single-season sack record.

"It's 26 and I'm gonna get it," he said. "There hasn't been a team yet that's been able to block me. Trey (Covington) on the other side helps and we got a 6-9 defensive tackle that's playing his first year. He's having a great year for us and now he's even starting to get some offers."

The talented pass rusher is widely considered one of the nation's premier defensive ends.

"I got a bunch of offers and everything like that," he said. "I'm pretty sure I have my five visits picked out, though. I'm going to Miami on December 12th, Florida on January 16th, and Georgia on January 9th. The other two will be Oklahoma and Tennessee but I haven't set the dates for those yet."

Harvey says he has offers from all five programs and they call him on a weekly basis. He talked more about the Hurricanes.

"I like Miami a lot," he said. "I watch all their games on TV, checking out the team, the defense, the way they rotate their defensive ends. I like what I see and I think I can fit in. I also like the weather factor at Miami. The coaches seem real cool and it's one of the best programs in the whole country. There's a lot to like and I can't wait to check it out on my visit."

When asked if he had a favorite at this point in the process, Harvey said, "not really. It doesn't matter to me where I go. I've lived around here all my life so I'm up for a change, it won't matter. I just want to find the best situation for me."
