DL Sets Visit To UM

At 6-foot-3 and 270 pounds, Orlando (Fla.) Oak Ridge standout defensive lineman Joe Joseph is enjoying a solid senior season.

"I get doubled a lot and they always run the other way," Joseph said. "I guess that means I'm a focal point of their offense so that's a good thing. I've been playing both end and tackle, depending on who we're playing. I got about five sacks right now."

Joseph, who also competes in varsity basketball and track, is emerging as one of the state's top defensive line prospects.

"I get phone calls from the coaches every night," he said. "They're allowed to call once a week and most do. My three visits right now are Miami on December 12th, Florida on January 9th, and Tennessee on January 16th. I've already been to South Carolina for a visit. I have family there so that helps and plus, I had a good time. They have a nice program. Ohio State will be my fifth one but we haven't scheduled a date yet."

The talented defensive lineman said every school on his list, except the Hurricanes, have offered him a scholarship.

"Everyone but Miami has sent an offer through the mail," he said. "Miami (Coach Don Soldinger) has mentioned it on the phone, though."

Another factor that makes UM different than the others in this situation is the fact that they're recruiting him to play tackle.

"Miami wants to as a tackle, the rest want me as an end," he said. "It doesn't really matter to me. Miami just wants smaller, faster guys. I'm probably going to be about 290 or 3(00) pounds in a couple years and I know how much speed they have so I can see why."

Joseph said he's currently favoring another in-state program.

"Florida," he said when asked which one he favors right now. "I just like the way they have approached me all year. Plus, they're real strong in my major, which is engineering. And of course they have a strong football program."
