James Preseason All-American

Sophomore Tamara James (Dania, Fla.) of the Miami women's basketball team has been named to the Street & Smith's Preseason Women's Basketball All-America Honorable Mention list.

James became the only freshman in the history of the BIG EAST to lead the league in scoring averaging 21.0 points per game. She was the highest scoring freshman in the nation ranked 10th nationally.

James scored in double-digits in 30 games and led Miami in scoring (21.0 ppg) and rebounding (7.9) the entire season.

She was named to the Associated Press, WBCA/Kodak and Full Court Press All-American Honorable Mention teams.

She led Miami with seven double-doubles on the season and earned BIG EAST Rookie of the week five times; the five times marked the most times a Miami player has earned the weekly honor.

She was an All-BIG EAST Rookie and Second team member and named to the All-BIG EAST Tournament team.

The Hurricanes open the 2003 exhibition season Monday hosting the Mike White All-Star team at 7 p.m. in the Convocation Center. Admission is free.
