TE Hoping For UM Offer

At 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade Madonna standout tight end Octavious Darby has been enjoying an excellent senior season.

While helping his team to a 8-1 start, Darby has 17 receptions and three touchdowns on the year.

"We're right about where we need to be going into the playoffs," Darby said. "We're going to get a big challenge this week when we go play against Mainland. That should help us get ready for the playoffs even more."

Darby, who is currently recovering from the flu, is one of the top tight end prospects in Florida.

"I still get calls all the time," he said. "UM, Florida, Florida State, Iowa, and Pittsburgh. I like those ones."

Darby, a teammate of UM linebacker prospect John Dunlap, said everyone except the Hurricanes have offered him.

"UM still calls but they haven't offered yet," he said. "I guess they just wanna see more of me. I still like them the best and I would pick them if I could. I'd like to play there. If not Miami, then I like Florida. They really like us up there and I think I can fit in."

Darby has already taken an official visit to Iowa but has not yet planned any others.

"We'll do those after the season," he said. "We want to concentrate on winning the state title."

Darby is a full academic qualifier.
