DB May Be Close to Commitment

For the past several months, Miami (Fla.) Monsignor Pace standout free safety Lovon Ponder has been strongly favoring the University of Miami. That remains the case. "UM is still where I want to be," Ponder said.

"They just have everything I'm looking for. I'm not sure when I'll actually commit but it's looking really good for Miami right now."

Ponder, 6-0 and 185 pounds, has taken several unofficial visits to Miami. He talked about the recent struggles of the Canes.

"The defense, they've been playing real good," he said. "It's the offense that's been hurting them. Once they get a quarterback and a running back like they're used to, they'll be right back to where they were."

The talented safety, whose team will begin the playoffs this Friday, said he's favoring the Hurricanes over a few others.

"N.C. State, Georgia, Florida State," he said. "I am still looking at those ones, might take some visits. My visit to UM will be after the season but I've already been there and know what it's like. I feel real good about them right now."

Ponder, who has over 60 tackles and one interception on the season, will play basketball after the season. He has scholarship offers from all the programs mentioned above.

Ponder is a full academic qualifier.
