A New Role

Last season Roger McIntosh started at strongside linebacker late in the season and finished the year with six starts. This year McIntosh dealt with a knee injury early in the season and now that he feels completely healthy he has still yet to start this year.

Senior Darrell McClover has been starting at strongside linebacker, but McIntosh has a positive attitude and is making plays on special teams.

"My role has changed a lot," McIntosh said. "I am playing a lot on special teams. I just have to make the greatest impact that I can to help out the team. If that is going out there on special teams and making plays, then that is what I will do."

It would be hard for most players to accept the change from losing their starting position especially a young player. McIntosh is in his sophomore season and has shown a lot of promise on the field. He has made a lot of big tackles on special teams, which can ignite the defense.

"The season is going good," McIntosh said. "I am just trying to work hard and help the team out any way I can."

Earlier in the year McIntosh had to have a small knee surgery and it slowed him a bit. Right now he feels fine.

"I am 100 percent right now," McIntosh said. "I am ready to roll and ready to go."

Special teams have been an important asset to the success of Miami this season. McIntosh is one of the leaders of the unit and strives to make plays whenever he is on the field.

"Special teams is going good," McIntosh said. "I just have to continue to do the best I can to help out the team. I just have to keep going down there (on special teams) and tackling somebody to get the team rowdy."

McIntosh grew up in small-town Gaffney, South Carolina with a population of a little over 13,000 people. Gaffney is the host of the South Carolina Peach Festival and is about 50 miles west of Charlotte. It is quite a big change than living in Miami.

"It is a nice little isolated town," McIntosh said. "I am in a big city now and there are a lot people here. It is a lot different."

Just because it is different does not mean McIntosh is not enjoying himself.

"I am having a lot of fun here in Miami being around the guys."
