Pa. Player Sets UM Visit

Pittsburgh (Pa.) Woodland Hills standout wide receiver/defensive back Devon Lyons has plenty of size and speed and it's easy to understand why he's had such a strong senior season.

Lyons has helped lead his team to the state championship game, which takes place this weekend. He has scored 14 touchdowns on offense on 23 catches for 792 yards. Playing defense, Lyons had 47 tackles and four interceptions.

At 6-foot-3 and 206 pounds, Lyons was timed at 4.47 at the Penn State NIKE Camp in the spring and says he's gotten even faster. The full academic qualifier will likely run track in the spring.

In the meantime, Lyons is one of the most heavily rated safety prospects in the entire country.

"I've already taken two of my visits," he said. "I went to Michigan State and Notre Dame. Michigan State was real nice. They have a huge campus and I think Coach Smith has done a great job turning them into a winner. Notre Dame, they have all the tradition. The campus was real nice and I got along with the coaches really well. Next up is Miami on December 5th and then Ohio State but I dont have that one scheduled yet."

Lyons said he talks with UM coach Art Kehoe on a weekly basis.

"Coach Kehoe is the one I talk to the most but I have talked to Larry Coker two times," he said. "Miami's very interested. They're just telling me how I need to come down and visit the campus and see what it's like for myself. Everyone knows that Miami's one of the best. They always are. There's nothing really else you can say except they're Miami. I've never been there so I'm really looking forward to visiting them."

Lyons has scholarship offers from the Irish, Spartans, and Buckeyes. Miami could be next up.

"I really cant say who my No. 1 is right now but it's probably out of the two I visited plus Miami," he said. "If I like Miami the best, they would be in real good position."
