Recruiting: QB Prospect List

The Hurricanes got off to a very fast start by landing a commitment from Marc Guillon, a Ken Dorsey understudy. But they haven't stopped there. Here's the latest on the quarterback recruiting situation.

The Hurricanes have a secure commitment from Marc Guillon, who was Ken Dorsey's understudy in high school. At 6-4 and 185, Guillon brings a lot of the same types of things to the table that Dorsey brings. Through six games this season, Guillon has thrown for 640 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Hurricanes seem to have three other quarterback prospects targeted, two of which have scholarship offers on the table from Miami. Newport News, VA quarterback Marcus Vick is the younger brother of former Hokie standout Michael Vick. The younger Vick says Miami is in the thick of things along with Tennessee, Georgia, Virginia, and Clemson. In six games this season, Vick has passed for 440 and rushed for over 500 and has scored 18 total touchdowns. Vick is good friends with fellow Virginia prospect Michael Johnson, a running back who is strongly considering the Hurricanes.

Tallahassee (Fla) Lincoln's Gavin Dickey is the best quarterback prospect in Florida. At 5-foot-10, he's a bit short but he knows how to win. In three seasons as a starter, Dickey is now 33-2 as a starter. Back in July, he was one of the top performers at the Elite 11 Passing Camp in California, which featured some of the nation's top quarterbacks. Dickey plans on visiting UM on January 19. He also has visits planned with Southern Cal, Georgia Tech, and Notre Dame. Dickey will visit Miami with teammate and close friend Pat Watkins, one of the state's top defensive back prospects.

Another prospect that remains a target but has not yet been offered by Miami is Houston (Texas) Madison signal caller Vincent Young. At 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds, Young is an outstanding athlete who is having a stellar senior season. Young is also strongly considering LSU, Florida State, Kansas State, and Southern Miss. In six games, Young had 700 yards passing and 11 touchdowns. Running the ball, he had 315 yards and eight touchdowns. Young may not be the best prospect on his own team, however. Cornerback Courtney Lewis has been offered by Miami and is strongly considering the Hurricanes.

Personally, I still think that Miami will end up signing Guillon and Vick because after next year, the Hurricanes will only have Derrick Crudup, Buck Ortega, and whomever comes in this year. It seems to me that Dickey will be headed to Southern Cal, while Young probably will not be coming.
