DL Gets Visit From UM

Camden, N.J. standout defensive tackle prospect Shukree Barfield emerged this season as one of the state's top overall prospects. "I played defensive end and offensive guard," Barfield said. "I was destroying people on offense. On defense, I was getting double-teamed every single play. Teams never ran my way."

At 6-foot-4 and 285 pounds, Barfield is now playing basketball (power forward). In the meantime, he plans on hitting the weight room.

"I wanna be real prepared to start college," he said. "It's not gonna be easy so I wanna be ready for everything."

Speaking of college, Barfield will likely attend a big time program.

"I'm gonna take all my trips in December and January," he said. "I'm going to Miami (1-16), Tennessee (1-9), Clemson (1-23), Rutgers, and Boston College."

Rumors had circluated early in the season that Barfield had made a commitment to the Clemson Tigers. He strongly denies that.

"Nope," he said. "I never committed anywhere. I don't know where people got that. I'm gonna take all my visits and then figure out where I feel most comfortable."

Barfield, who claims offers from all of his favorites, said he's very high on the Hurricanes.

"Coach Greg Mark just left my house actually," he said. "Today was the day they could make visits to your house so it was nice seeing him."

The talented defensive lineman said he's able to relate to what Mark is saying to him.

"He's from around here and played D-Line at Miami and that's what he's trying to get me to do," he said. "I know that's a good program and they produce a lot of D-Linemen. They're real high up there. I'm real interested in Miami."

Barfield is set to receive in-home visits from the other programs mentioned later in the week.
