Kehoe to Visit DE Today

Bradenton (Fla.) Manatee standout defensive end C.J. Hunnicutt was first noticed by the UM coaches during the spring evaluation period. He then impressed Coach Art Kehoe at a summer camp in Lakeland. Now after a strong senior season, Hunnicutt will be meeting with Kehoe for an in-home visit on Thursday.

"He's coming in Thursday to meet with me," said Hunnicutt, who finished this season with 75 tackles and 18 quarterback sacks. "I never really knew how serious Miami was in me until lately. I mean they've been calling and stuff but to have a coach come to your house, it shows how interested they really are."

Hunnicutt has not yet received a scholarship offer from the Hurricanes but he's hoping that happens real soon.

"They're the ones that haven't yet," he said. "I'm hoping they do that this week. If not, I'll just have to wait."

The talented defensive end has already has in-home visits from Ohio State, Auburn, and West Virginia this week.

"Those are the schools that I'll visit," he said. "I went to Auburn already. I went for the Alabama game. The crowd was really into it. Stanley McClover showed me around. It was alright. I'm going to West Virginia this weekend, South Florida on January 16th, and Ohio State on the 23rd. We'll probably schedule my trip to Miami this week but it'll probably be for later this month."

Hunnicutt said he has some good choices right now with scholarship offers from all of his favorites except for Miami. However, the visit process will tell the big story.

"Anyone can call me on the phone and tell me about how much they want me and everything," he said. "They can do that with as many kids as they want. But when I meet the coaches in person on my visits or when they sit in my living room, I can see into their eyes. I can see their attitudes. It makes a big difference. How comfortable I feel around the coaches is going to make a big difference when I make my decision."

Hunnicutt, a full academic qualifier, said getting an offer from Miami would be huge.

"I'd love to get the offer from Miami," he said. "They're one of the best programs in the country. They're close and there's lots of competition there."

On a side note, Hunnicutt said Kehoe is recruiting two other players in the Bradenton/Sarasota area.

"I know he's recruiting Drew Miller and SirDarean Adams too," he said. "He'll probably be visiting with them too. Adams told me that Kehoe calls him all the time. I know he likes them a lot too."
