Jones Back From Visit

Homestead (Fla.) South Dade standout running back Charlie Jones took his official visit to Miami this past weekend with his parents. He talked about it.

"It was fun," Jones said. "Of course I liked it. My parents did too. They really like all the coaches and the players they met. I was with Quadtrine Hill the most because he was my host but I was also with Antrel (Rolle) a lot too."

Jones, 5-10 and 200 pounds, also had a chance to meet several other recruits on the visit.

"I was trying to help get some of them to come to Miami," he said. "There were some guys that have also committed already, like McMeans, the Juco guy. He's gonna start practicing with the team next week. I was with Xavier Carter a lot too. He's talking about LSU and Florida. Zach Miller, a tight end from (Arizona), was there too. His brother goes to Arizona (State) so he might just follow him there but I know he said he liked it a lot here."

The talented running back said the highlight of his trip was when they went to the Orange Bowl.

"It was the players that were showing us around, the coaches, and us," he said. "When I got there, I went into the locker room and saw jerseys like Clinton Portis, Najeh Davenport, big time running backs they've had, McGahee. Then there was one that had my name and number on it. I gotta admit, it looked pretty nice in there. Then we ran onto the field through the smoke with BoneCrusher playing in the background. It was pretty energetic. Everyone was fired up for it."

Jones had a chance to meet with some of the coaches at the end of his visit.

"I really like the coaches," he said. "I've been out there a lot of times and you can just see how they treat everyone the same. They make you work hard. Quadtrine Hill is gonna switch over to tailback for the spring because they're gonna sit Frank Gore out just in case. Otherwise, it would be just Moss."

Jones plans on running track to add more speed and quickness and hopes to be ready to compete when he arrives in August.

"That's what's on my mind," he said. "I know Frank and Tyrone are pretty good but I think I am too. We'll see what happens."
