Prospect Excited About New Offer

Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade standout tight end Octavius Darby recently helped his team win the Class 2A state championship. He talked about that.

"That was our No. 1 goal back in August and we're here now as champs," he said. "We did what we said we'd do. I'm glad we won."

Darby, 6-2 and 230 pounds, played on both sides of the ball this season. He projects as a college tight end, where he finished the season with 14 receptions for 195 yards and two touchdowns.

A couple weeks before the state championship game, Darby received the news he'd been hoping for all year.

"Miami came through with an offer," he said. "I was glad they did. They have been on me all year and just said that they wanted to see a little more of me. I feel like I really stepped it up late in the season and it paid off."

Now that Darby has a scholarship offer from the Hurricanes, where does the talented tight end currently stand?

"It seemed like Florida wanted me the most at first but now I know Miami wants me," he said. "Miami's my top choice. Me and John (Dunlap) might go together."

The talented tight end prospect has already taken two official visits and has two others lined up.

"I'm going to Miami (Jan. 16) and Florida (Jan. 23) in January," he said. "I went to North Carolina (State) and Iowa already. They were alright. I'll commit next month."

So it appears Darby will likely choose between Florida and Miami. He agrees.

"Yeah, it'll probably be between those two," he said. "I like them both. Miami, a little more."
