Davis Talks Recruiting

Miami (Fla.) Northwestern standout linebacker Romeo Davis is coming off a strong senior season. After registering 70 tackles, he was a second team all-county pick. Now he's busy wrestling in the 189-pound weight class.

"I'm now 12-1," he said. "I'm hoping I can make it to states. I'm actually about 190 or 191 (pounds) right now. I have fun wrestling. I'm gonna do track after wrestling season."

Davis, a full academic qualifier after scoring an 880 on the SAT, has already taken a visit to Indiana and plans on taking three later this month.

"I think I'm going to UM next weekend," he said. "After that, I'm going to FIU and then FAM (Florida A&M). I might go to Western Illinois too but I haven't been able to get ahold of their coach."

Davis said last Sunday that he considers himself a UM commitment and said that's still the case today.

"I consider myself a commitment," he said. "I know Miami's trying to get two or three linebackers and I think I'll be one of them. Leo (Waiters) is there now so they're getting more depth. I'd love to play with those guys."

Davis said he's spoken to UM defensive coordinator Randy Shannon a few times.

"The last time I talked to him was about a week or two before the (xmas) break," he said. "He was just telling me about possibly coming in for a visit."

Davis talked more about what he likes most about the Hurricanes.

"They're close to home and they're a big time program," he said. "They play in big games and there's a lot of competition. I'd love to be part of that."
