How Solid Is Byrd's Commitment?

When Houston (Texas) Hightower offensive lineman Tyrone Byrd was offered a scholarship by the Miami coaches a few months ago, it didn't take him long to make a decision. He committed to the Hurricanes immediately. A couple months later, Byrd took an official visit to Oklahoma State.

"When I committed to Miami, everything seemed right," Byrd said. "It just seemed like the perfect place for me. I really liked it there -- the area, the coaches, the players, everything."

Byrd then took his official visit to UM in early December and he seemed even more sold.

"My visit confirmed all that," he said. "It showed me that Miami was what I thought it would be. Then I started thinking that maybe I should check out other schools just in case."

That led to the 6-5, 255-pounder taking a trip to Oklahoma State this past weekend.

"It was really nice," he said. "I liked a lot about it and it's a place I could fit in well at. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it's not Miami. That's where my heart is and that's where I'm going."

Byrd, who was voted the Top OL at UM's camp last June, made little doubt as to who he'll sign with on signing day.

"I'm a Hurricane now (in high school) and I'll be a Hurricane well into the future," he said. "I'm committed to Miami."

Byrd is a full academic qualifier.
