"I never thought I'd be in this spot. Some guys play football their whole lives. I've been playing two years and I was All-Dade and all-state this year. I just wanna continue doing well and working hard."
Rutledge, who stands 6-foot-7 and 280 pounds, has been preparing for the Dade/Broward all-star game the last few days.
"We've been practicing for the game," he said. "Your boy (Antonio) Dixon is out there and he looks great. He's down to like 295 and really hard to block. A lot of guys have a lot of trouble with him."
Rutledge, a full academic qualifier, has taken two official visits this year -- N.C. State last month and Florida last weekend.
"NC State was tight and so was Florida," he said. "There were a bunch of guys at Florida. A couple other linemen, Drew Miller and Jim (Tartt), committed and those guys were seeing if I would. I wasnt going to because I still have my UM visit."
The talented offensive lineman will be taking his official visit to UM this weekend.
"I'm gonna see how it compares to Florida," he said. "I like UM a lot. Coach Kehoe is good and I think I would fit in well. I'll know a lot more about my final decision after this weekend."
Rutledge, who also plans to visit Rutgers later this month, will announce his decision on signing day.
"Thats probably when I'll let everyone know where I'm going," he said. "But I'll know a lot more by Sunday."
Rutledge talked about having to compete with many other linemen at the next level.
"That doesn't bother me at all," he said. "I'm going in and I'm gonna work hard and compete with anyone they put in front of me. I'm confident in my abilities and when I get with a strength and conditioning program, I think I'll be alright."
Rutledge, who has more hair on his head than most other recruits, joked that if he were to sign with UM they better not plan to cut it off.
"They do it with the other freshman but they're gonna have to find other hair to cut because mine's staying," he laughed.
