UM Battling LSU For DL

There had been rumors floating around that New Orleans (La.) Kennedy standout defensive end Dion Gales was no longer being recruited by Miami.

"Actually, it's just that I really hadnt been hearing as much from them as I thought I would," Gales said. "But I met with (Greg Mark) and we got everything squared away. He was telling me how they still want me and everything."

At 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds, Gales made sure Mark knew that he was still strongly interested in becoming a Hurricane.

"Man, you know how much I'd like to play there," he said. "Playing at Miami is something I've thought about for a long time. I know the kind of guys they recruit there and I'd love to go and compete with them."

Gales, who is a couple points short on the ACT, had visits scheduled to Ole Miss, UM, and LSU over the next three weekends. However, there may be a change of plans.

"I don't know what I'm gonna do now," he said. "I had Miami set for the 23rd but that might change, I don't know. They both might want me to come in on the same weekend. I'm gonna have to work that out with the coaches at both Miami and LSU."

Gales said he was impressed the way LSU handled Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl.

"They're tight," he said. "The defense is really strong. They're telling me I can be a part of that. But I know what Miami's got going on and I know I'd like to be a part of that too. It's gonna be out of those two. I gotta see what happens with these visits."
