Darby Getting Close?

Ever since he received a scholarship offer from the University of Miami in late November, Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade standout tight end Octavius Darby has been favoring the Hurricanes. After taking a weekend visit to UM, that's still the case.

"Miami's still my top school," Darby said. "The visit was fine. I didn't commit though. But it was fun and I got a chance to see different parts of the program, like hanging out with the players and stuff."

Darby, 6-2 1/2 and 222 pounds, was hosted by former teammate Jon Beason.

"We hung out," he said. "It was nice meeting some other recruits from out of town too."

The talented tight end had a chance to meet with UM head coach Larry Coker during the visit.

"I told him that I saw everything I needed to see in order to commit but I want to meet my position coach first," he said. "They should be getting one real soon and I want to see what he's like first. I still like N.C. State too. I'm not committed anywhere but Miami is on top, I'd say."

Darby is a full academic qualifier.
