J.R. Bryant Updates His Status

One of the first commitments for the University of Miami this recruiting season was from Miami (Fla.) Killian cornerback J.R. Bryant. Now he's having second thoughts. "I went through the year thinking more and more about it," Bryant said.

"When I went out to the CaliFlorida Bowl, I started talking to some more guys about it. I wanted to take my visits. I thought I needed to in order to make the best decision."

At 6-0 and 165 pounds, Bryant has taken trips to Florida State and Florida the last two weeks.

"I went up to Florida State last weekend and I just got back from Florida," he said. "Florida was alright but FSU was straight. It was real tight. Just the coaches, the players, everything. I loved it there and I felt real comfortable. I thought about how quickly I could adjust and how well I could do there."

So at this point in the process, does Bryant consider himself a UM commitment?

"Well, it's looking more like FSU right now," he said. "That may change but FSU is the leader right now. I just feel a little more comfortable there. I'm gonna visit Rutgers after UM. I don't know about them right now though."

Despite favoring the Noles right now, Bryant plans on checking out UM to see if they can change his mind.

"A lot of the top guys will be there this weekend," he said. "Me and Dane (Guthrie) are going. UM might get me to change my mind again. I committed to them at first because I thought it was the best place for me. They're gonna need to show me that again."
