WR Has Two Finalists

One of the nation's top wide receiver prospects, Stockton (Calif.) Edison standout Lavelle Hawkins has one visit left on his schedule. "I'm coming down on Friday," Hawkins said late Tuesday night.

"It's either gonna be them (Miami) or LSU. I got it down to just those two and I have one visit left."

The talented receiver had also considered Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Cal before trimming his list to two.

"I just wasn't feelin Tennessee and Oklahoma," he said. "They're straight and everything but that aint me. Cal's academics are too strict for me."

Hawkins is currently attending night school so he can ensure himself of being a qualifier.

"I'm just taking it so that I can get the right amount of core credits," he said. "Everything's straight, though. Once I'm done with this, I'll have the test scores and I'll be ready to go."

The trip to UM this weekend will be his second. He camped at Miami over the summer.

"When I saw the school and met the coaches over the summer, everything was cool," he said. "I loved it there. CJ's the man. I like him a lot. I'll get a better chance to find out what it's like on the team by hanging out with the players and stuff this weekend. Me and Cameron (Colvin) are coming down there."

Hawkins, who received in-home visits from both UM and LSU late last week, talked more about the Tigers.

"They are tight too," he said. "I had fun there. Skyler Green showed me around. They're the champs. Early (Doucet) already committed there and now they're trying to get me and Xavier Carter. They have some other guys too. It don't matter to me though, I'll compete with anyone, it won't matter who it is."

Hawkins said he'll be able to make a final decision after his visit this weekend.

"I'll know a lot more by the end of the weekend," he said. "I really like Miami but I like LSU too. I'm gonna see what the coaches are talkin about at Miami this weekend."
