Ford Talks About Decision

Miami (Fla.) Northwestern standout cornerback Trevor Ford announced his college decision on Countdown To Signing Day tonight. "I'm committed to Florida State," he told us.

"It really was a tough choice. I loved my visit to Florida State. Cliff (Dickson) is a good friend of mine and he's gonna be starting there next year. He loves it. My Godbrother, Derrick Baker, runs track there so I'll be close with him again."

Ford, one of the state's top defensive back prospects, picked FSU over arch-rival Miami. "I wanted to go away for school," he said. "I've lived in Miami my whole life so it was time for a change."

Ford became the second Dade County player to commit to the Noles, joining Jacky Claude. J.R. Bryant may be next. Ford talked about the appeal for kids in that area. "Miami's been winning all the games between the two lately so I wanted to go up to FSU and help them even the series out," he said. "Instead of relying on a field goal, hopefully we'll be able to beat them so it doesn't come down to that."

Ford said it was hard to say no to Miami. "I had five coaches come by my house last week," he said. "I really like Randy Shannon. They're getting a real good guy from LSU to coach the DBs. Lovon (Ponder) is probably going, maybe Kenny (Ingram), some cat from Memphis. They've been winning all the games in this state the last few years and they'll keep getting some of the best players. They already got Bobby (Washington), Charlie Jones, Romeo (Davis), they'll probably get Anthony Reddick. They're still getting a lot of the best players too."
