DB Has Big Leader

Another defensive back that took his recruiting visit to the University of Miami this weekend is Miami (Fla.) Pace standout Lovon Ponder. "It was tight," Ponder said.

"We was together all weekend. They had a lot of the top guys from Miami in for their visits. Willie (Williams) was there, Bobby Washington, a bunch of guys."

Ponder said he enjoyed just hanging out with the players and getting to feel more at home.

"I knew a lot about UM already but this was a chance for me to chill with some of the players and just get to feel more comfortable around there," he said. "It was straight, I liked it. I think I can fit in."

The talented defensive back prospect said he really enjoyed two parts about the visit in particular.

"We got to run onto the field at the stadium," he said. "I've always wanted to do that. I also held their championship crystal ball. You see it on TV and stuff and you never think about actually holding it."

With his visits complete, Ponder will now sit down and try to come up with a final decision.

"I'll probably decide by signing day," he said. "UM's at the top right now. Meeting the new coach (Tim Walton) was good for me because I wanted to know about my position coach. Everything's cool. It's probably gonna be either UM or N.C. State but it's looking real good for Miami right now."

Ponder is a full academic qualifier.
