DE Commits To Canes

For the last couple weeks Sarasota Booker defensive end Chris Zellner has been going back and forth between his three finalists; Miami, Ohio State and Maryland. On Tuesday night, Zellner made his final decision.

"Chris committed to Miami last night," said his father Rick. "He announced it today. Chris had a very tough time making his final decision but in the end he felt Miami was the best place."

Location may be a big part of why Miami is the best place for him.

"We determined that Ohio State was just too far from home because we've seen every game of his since he was 9 years old," said Rick. "Miami is close to home and will give us a chance to see him play. He loved everything about the visit and just felt most comfortable at Miami."

UM's academic program also played a part in landing Zellner. The talented defensive end plans on majoring in Business.

"Chris is a business major and he will be able to begin classes in that major right away," said his father. "That also played a big part. Chris is glad the whole thing is finally over with and is ready to move on. He's very excited about Miami."

Zellner, who is a former high school teammate of Baraka Atkins had 12 sacks and was widely considered one of the state's top defensive end prospects and was offered by the Hurricanes early in the season.
