Jim Burt Q&A

Jim Burt is a senior first baseman from Allendale, New Jersey. Last season Burt was the only Hurricane to start all 63 games. Burt finished the season with a .286 average and 11 homeruns. In his career, Burt has played in 173 games and has hit 22 homeruns, both tops among active Hurricanes.

How did your summer go?

I went to the Cape Cod League and it was a good experience. The competition was real good. It got me prepared for this season. I played with Paco Figueroa. It helped being with someone you know every day. It was a lot of fun.

What are some things that you worked on personally in the off-season?

I worked on my hitting a lot in the off-season. I felt like my defense was pretty good last year, but I needed to work on my hitting. I just worked on making my swing simpler.

Can you talk about the personality of the team?

We definitely have a lot more confidence this year than we did last year. We have been there before and we have pretty much the same team coming back. We know each other pretty well. Most of us have been playing together for two to three years. We are a pretty tight-knit group.

How are the younger guys coming along with fall practices and now in the spring?

We have some good freshmen coming in, but because we have so many guys coming back, there aren't too many freshmen this year. the guys that we do have can come in and help out right away especially the pitchers. Brendan Katin, from junior college, will bring some power to our lineup.
