Tough Norland LB

Two years ago linebacker Antwan Barnes led a very talented Miami (Fla.) Norland defense to the Class 6A state championship. This year, Garrett White will be one of the players that they'll look to help carry the defense. At 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, White will be one of the top returning linebackers in Dade County this season.

White, who finished last season with 85 tackles, eight sacks, three caused fumbles, and one interception that he returned for a touchdown, also plays defensive end but he projects as a linebacker in college. At a recent combine, he ran a 4.7/40 on grass, jumped 25 inches, and did 14 reps on the 185-pound bench press.

White, who also competes in varsity track, is getting lots of interest from college coaches. "I've been getting a lot of mail," he said. "Right now, I like the University of Miami, LSU, Florida State, North Carolina, and Michigan. Those are my favorites right now."

White, who carries a 2.8 GPA and plans on attending the LSU summer camp along with some of his teammates, has not yet received any scholarship offers.

Note: Norland teammate Richard Gordon is the school's best prospect this year. At 6-3 1/2 and 230 pounds, Gordon is an excellent athlete who is coming off a big junior year. He's the most likely player at Norland to be actively recruited by UM this year, so stay tuned for more on him.
