Barney Talks About Camp

While Merritt Island's Eddie Haupt was the best offensive line prospect at the UM camp on Saturday, he got competition for that honor on Sunday when Northwestern's Chris Barney showed up.

"Me, Dustin, and Leron just went out there for the day," Barney said. "We all wanna go to college together like I told you so we were hoping to catch the attention of the coaches."

Barney had a chance to work with UM line coach Art Kehoe for most of the day.

"He's a good coach," he said. "He's real intense and you can tell how much fun he's having. He makes it fun for the players. He was giving me pointers and stuff too."

Barney said during 1-on-1 drills, he only saw competition from two players.

"Freak came with the ends for a little bit," he said. "He's always gonna give you a battle. He's real good, quick, strong. There was a dude we called Kentucky because that's where he was from. He reminded me of Vince Wilfork because of the way he was built. He was strong and was pushing everyone around till he got to me. He was pretty good."

Barney said the camp experience just solidifed his thoughts on the UM program.

"I really like UM right now," he said. "I gotta see if they're gonna take Dustin and Leron too. I hope they take all three of us."

Barney and his Northwestern teammates leave for a camp at South Florida on Wednesday.
