NOTES

Miami has a 24-8 all-time record against South Carolina. The teams last faced each one another in 2002 in the Super Regionals. South Carolina defeated Miami in three games at Columbia to advance to the College World Series. Both teams are hot down the stretch: the Hurricanes have won 20 of their last 23 games and the Gamecocks have won 19 of their last 23 games.

STARTING PITCHERS

LHP #18 Brandon Camardese (6-2, 3.86) vs. RHP #23 Billy Buckner (6-2, 3.16)

Camardese has not pitched since June 4 against St. Bonaventure when he came within one out of a complete game. He uses a fastball, slider, and a cutter but is not a strikeout pitcher mainly because he lacks an effective offspeed pitch. He is holding opposing batters to a .235 average and will be making a team-high 17th start. Last year in the College World Series he pitched an elimination game against Texas lasting 4.1 innings and suffered the loss.

Buckner, a second round draft pick by the Kansas City Royals, has a low-90's fastball and a very good curveball. On the season he has 95 strikeouts in 77 innings and just 22 walks. In his last start on June 6, he went just three innings giving up four runs (two earned). Earlier in the season he battled mono missing 33 days of action and has slowly regained his strength.
