DB Hoping For UM Offer

Edison's Chris Chancellor knows how to make plays. He says he's had 15 interceptions the past two seasona and had two more in Edison's spring game against Northwestern. At 5-9 and 160 pounds, Chancellor isn't the biggest guy on the field but he has plenty of ability.

"I'm real physical for my size," he said. "That helps me out a lot. Plus, I can recognize what receivers are doing. I can anticipate pretty good the routes and stuff like that."

Chancellor, a full academic qualifier, is busy preparing for a big senior season.

"We've been getting together and hitting the weight room a lot," he said. "I'm trying to get seven or more picks and hopefully win a state title."

The talented defensive back also runs track. He competed in three events at districts -- 100m (11.48 ) , 200m (23.32), and long jump (21-04). Those are more reasons why he's one of the top-rated cornerback prospects in the area.

"Right now my top five is Florida State, Miami, NC State, Oklahoma State, and Nebraska," he said. "All of them except for Miami have sent me offers. I have talked to Coach Shannon. He's real cool."

Chancellor actually spent part of Monday at UM for a photo shoot for the Army All-American Game that will be played in January.

"It was me, Kenny Phillips, Demetrius Morley, the dude from Coral Reef (Dorian Munroe), Chris Barney, Ricky-Jean (Francois), and the big tight end from Norland (Richard Gordon)," he said. "They haven't picked the team yet but those are the players from Miami they are looking at."

Chancellor said he's high on UM but it appears FSU is the team to beat.

"I like UM and everything," he said. "It's close to home and they put a lot of guys into the league but FSU was my team growing up. Deion Sanders played there."

Chancellor plans on being at the FSU camp in a few weeks.
