Decision Looming For QB

It appears schools will about approximately a week to make a final decision on whether or not to offer Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland quarterback Jonathan Garner. He plans to announce his decision at the Elite 11 Camp in California, which begins on July 21.

"It's between Florida, Miami, Ole Miss, Memphis, and Stanford now," Garner said. "With the exception of Miami, they have all offered me a scholarship."

The most recent offer came from the Gators, just a day after coming home from their rising senior camp.

"I thought I threw the ball really well there," he said. "There were some good receivers to throw the ball to -- like OJ Murdock, Eric Sledge, and Louis Murphy. I also had a chance to compete with Ryan Perrilloux and that was fun. Florida offered me (Monday morning)."

At 6-4 and 205 pounds, Garner has not yet been offered by the Hurricanes but is hoping his impressive performance at camp last month will help.

"I haven't really heard anything about an offer from them lately," he said. "Like I said, Miami's one of my finalists so if they offer, I'm definitely interested. The quality of athletes there that I'd have a chance to throw to and the chances of winning a national championship are both major selling points for them."

The talented quarterback prospect, who is fully qualified, said one program does stand out on his list.

"Florida's my favorite right now," he said. "That can change though. I'm going to be doing a whole lot of thinking coming up. It's going to be a tough decision but I'd like to really begin to focus on getting my team back to the state title game."
