Randy Phillips To UM

Glades Central standout defensive back Randy Phillips knew he wanted to be a Hurricane from the beginning. That decision has become public. "Miami's the spot," Phillips said.

"I've always wanted to be a Hurricane. To be part of what they have going on there, I think I can help carry on the tradition. They got it all. I wanna play in the league someday and I know that Miami will prepare me better than anyone else because of the competition and the coaches."

Phillips, 6-0 and 190 pounds, finished last season with 97 tackles and four interceptions. He currently plays safety but may play cornerback in college.

"It doesn't really matter," he said. "As long as I get on the field, I'm fine with whatever. I think I can hit and run better than most people and I'm ready for the competition. Miami's talked more about safety though."

Phillips, a full academic qualifier, said he still may consider taking a few more recruiting trips.

"Florida State and Ohio State are trying to get me and I'm not sure right now what I'll do about my visits," he said. "All I know is that Miami's where I want to be."
