"I went up there and had fun," Harris said. "There was a lot of competition. There were a lot of coaches there too, like Miami. Basically, I learned how to stay low. You really see why the low man wins when you go to camps like that."
That camp, which features a couple hundred linemen every year, concludes with what are called board drills. A board is placed on the ground and two linemen must line up across from each other with their feet outside of the board. Harris said he enjoyed those.
"I won the first session of board drills," he said. "I was tearing it up. I just stayed low and used my quickness."
Harris said he only saw one player that he felt was even in his league.
"Spencer Adkins from Naples was pretty good," he said. "That was about it. I was doing really good."
Harris, 6-3 and 230 pounds, plans on attending LSU's camp a week from today. He's getting lots of action on the recruiting front.
"So far, Miami's the big offer," he said. "They offered me. I've talked to Coach Cristobal. He's a real cool guy. They're just talking about getting me down there and becoming a Hurricane."
Harris said the Canes currently have a slight lead over a few other programs.
"I'm also looking hard at LSU and Florida but I just feel most comfortable at Miami right now," he said. "I plan on taking all my visits and everything though."
One thing that likely won't get in the way of a decision for Harris is the depth chart.
"All that ain't even really matter," he said. "It's all about being the best. If you don't think you can be the best, then you don't need to go to a place like Miami. If you feel like you can go up against the best, which I think I can, then all that doesn't even really matter."
Harris will be playing on both sides of the ball as a senior this fall (DE/TE). He said UM is recruiting him as a defensive end.
