Talent Matches Attitude

You often hear it -- if you want to walk the walk, you better be able to talk the talk. There's no better way to explain that than by listening to tight end Martellus Bennett. The talented Texan and his Taylor High teammates took part in the state 7-on-7 tournament this past weekend. We'll let Bennett pick it up from there.

"I stole it," Bennett said. "That show was mine. I was killin it out there. Nobody could touch me. I told people they weren't gonna be able to slow me down and I proved it. Put a smaller guy on me and I'll outjump him every time. Put a bigger guy on me and I'll outrun him."

Bennett said he was making so much noise that one opponent switched positions just so he could cover Bennett one-on-one.

"There was a 6-4 receiver who thought he wanted some," he said. "He kept up speed wise but I ate him up too. Ask anyone who was there, they'll tell you."

The success Bennett had at the tournament was no surprise he said.

"I dont like it when people talk and don't back it up," he said. "There's too much of that sometimes. I back mine up. If there's a better player out here, show him to me. Line him up. I'm ready."

At 6-foot-7 and 240 pounds, Bennett has spent the last few days relaxing and enjoying video games.

"I got NCAA 04 and I made myself on there," he said. "I'm a 6-7, 255 pound tight end because that's what I'll be when I start playing in college."

Bennett said he's ready to take that attitude with him to Miami.

"I know those guys will be ready," he said. "The guys at Miami are like me. They back it up. If you think you're one of the best, you'll go to Miami. If you're not sure, then don't come. They train like champions. I'm ready for that. We want the best, the toughest guys. That's why we're gonna have the number one recruiting class this year."

The talented tight end said he has already thought about playing for the Hurricanes.

"First game, I wanna catch a touchdown in a close game against Florida State," he said. "I don't even know who they play first game next year but I hope to be ready to go by then."
