UM in 3-Way Battle For OL

Prior to taking a summer camp trip around different parts of the country, Corey Zirbel had a nice list of scholarship offers. However, he wanted to see if he could expand that list even more to include some of college football's biggest names.

"I spent a few days in Miami, a few days in Michigan, and then one day at Ohio State," Zirbel said. "I ended up getting offers from all three of them. I guess it was a good decision to check out all three of those camps. Right now, those are the main three I'm looking at."

The talented lineman and the rest of his Murray (Ky.) teammates will be starting two-a-days this week.

"We're starting a little earlier than you guys (in Florida) I guess," he said. "We have a scrimmage in a couple weeks and our first game is right after that. It's right around the corner and I think I'm ready. I can't wait to help my team win."

Zirbel said he picked up a lot of new techniques from the various camps that will help him become a better player this season.

"I always felt, even going to those camps, that my athletic ability is something that separates me from a lot of guys," he said. "I still have that to my advantage and now I'll have better techniques and I'll be able to apply some of the smaller things to my game. I'm pretty excited."

The talented lineman, who is already qualified academically, said he had planned on making an early decision but that has changed.

"I'll need to go into my season, maybe longer to make a decision," he said. "All three of those schools really made me feel comfortable. The big thing is that everyone treated me well. I got along with the coaches. I enjoyed being at all three places. I get handwritten notes from the coaches all the time. It's really not going to be an easy choice."

Zirbel talked about his three favorites.

"I really like Michigan right now," he said. "I felt really comfortable there and I got along with all the coaches. Miami was great too. Just their winning tradition and their ability to produce great players is amazing. Ohio State is a nice place too and they're always a top program."

Zirbel plans on taking official visits to all three schools before making a final decision.
