Right From the Start

Ryan Moore is ready to get the season started to see where the team stands regardless of the opponent. Most big-time programs prefer to have "tune-up" games prior to starting the season, but not this year with Miami and Florida State.

Ryan Moore is a sophomore wide receiver from Orlando and is excited to finally get the season started. Along with his fellow receivers they have something to prove this year. As a unit they did not get the production they would have liked, but worked hard throughout the off-season to be more productive in 2004. It starts Friday.

Last year he caught 44 passes for 637 yards and three touchdowns. He is confidence he will be a leader on the field and put up even bigger numbers this year.

"I have a lot of confidence because we have a talented receiving corps," Moore said. "I can help them and they can help me out. I am real excited to get started."

After the conclusion to the 2003 season the Hurricanes promoted quarterbacks coach Dan Werner to offensive coordinator and the team is looking to be more successful this season than they were a season ago.

"Guys are more comfortable with the offense," Moore said. "Everyone knows where everyone is supposed to be at. We are way more comfortable out there."

One of the players looking to have a bounce-back season is quarterback Brock Berlin. The entire team has publicly stated they are more confident in Berlin this season including the receivers.

"I am real confident in Brock Berlin," Moore said. "I spent all spring, summer, and two-a-days with him. We are on the same page."

The biggest difference for Moore in the off-season was the time he put in the with the quarterbacks.

"I just worked more with the quarterbacks directly this summer," Moore said. "As a corps we worked more with the quarterback."

Winning the opener is always a positive boost for a program, but it would be an even bigger boost by beating a rival team.

"I think if we win this game it will be a real confidence booster with having a tough team right at the start," Moore said. "We are going to see where we are right at the first game of the season."

Playing Monday night would have been special, but hopefully it won't take away from the hype of the game.

"It is going to be real special," Moore said. "Everyone is going to be real hyped. We just have to stay poised and go in there and play our game."

Final thoughts on the Florida State game?

"I want to get going right from the top," Moore added. "I want to see how good we are."
