The Friday Stock Report - 9/10

The 2004 season if finally here. Put away the old game tapes—it is a new season. Gone for the Miami Hurricanes are six first-round draft picks including four players on the defense side of the ball. Enter new faces ready to step up and make a name for themselves.

In this week's installment of The Friday Stock Report I singled out one player on offense and defense who will have a breakout season based on their hard work in the off-season, their explosive talent, and having a larger role.

WR Darnell Jenkins

"Tough, hard-working, and gives 100 percent on every play." Those are just a few of the compliments given to Jenkins by his teammates. Jenkins is poised for a breakout season after maturing on and off the field. He has always been known as a tough kid, but he put it together in the off-season improving his size, strength, and speed. He never was afraid to go over the middle, but now he has added the ability to go deep. Often times the former Miami Central star goes up against all-American candidate Antrel Rolle in practice and the two have great battles. Jenkins is ready to let Hurricane fans know who he is and what he is all about. Look for him to provide the team with big-time touchdowns throughout the season and always look for number eight when the team needs a big play—he will produce.

Honorable Mention: TE Greg Olsen, OL Rashad Butler, QB Kyle Wright

SS Greg Threat

Threat is ready. All of the extra time he put in throughout the off-season will pay off for this standout safety in the making. He was one of the first guys at the training facility and one of the last to leave. When the team did their regular workouts he would do his own before and after each workout. It was amazing to see the drive in this young man and the goal he has in mind. He wants to be one of the best—not only on the field, but one of the best in the nation. When you think of great safeties that have came through Miami you will soon add Greg Threat to the list.

Honorable Mention: LB Tavares Gooden, DL Bryan Pata, LB Jon Beason
