GT Locker Room Quotes

Miami moved to 4-0 on the season with an impressive 27-3 win over Georgia Tech in their first first ACC road game. Kyle Wrght, Tavares Gooden, Kelly Jennings and others gave us their thoughts on the game.

CB Kelly Jennings

Overall thoughts on the defense…

"We prepared a lot and watched a lot of film this week. We knew we wanted to do. Coach Shannon had a great scheme and we executed it.

On the Georgia Tech receivers…

"We knew how they were coming into the game. Their main guy was a big guy. They weren't anything spectacular. We just came out and did our jobs."

On if the defense thinks about giving up just one touchdown in the first four games…

"Of course we want to keep it going, but it is not something we think about throughout the week. We don't talk about it, but it is something nice to have going."

On the defense being a close-knit group…

"We are pretty close. I think we are a little bit closer than we were last year. A lot of the guys now are hanging out and joking around in the lockerroom and outside of football. I think we have a chance to be better than we were last yaer.

LB Tavares Gooden

Overall thoughts on the defense…

"Our defense just covers our assignments each week. If we are able to stop them from scoring, then that's how it is. We know what are jobs are and everyone goes out there and does it."

On the added confidence each week following the opener against Florida State

"It is not about confidence. It is about being a team. We the ‘U' as everyone says. We have confidence and it is about not being selfish. We have plenty of guys on this team that could think ‘oh, I need to make plays so I can get to the league.' Nobody thinks like that. We are going to go out there and play together. We help each other on the field. If you make a mistake, nobody is going to tell you—that is how it should be. We aren't afraid to make mistakes out there."

On how comfortable it is to play with team unity…

"We are only human and we are going to make mistakes. We are going to get the guy on the ground. Once we get the guy on the ground, we line up and do it again. If we have a mental, we try to limit the mistakes."

On if the defense thinks about allowing only one touchdown through four games…

"We don't even think about it. We just go out there and play. It just so happens that the team doesn't score any touchdowns. Each week we try to limit the teams to not scoring more than two touchdowns each week."

FB Talib Humphrey

Thoughts on the offense…

"Our passing game was clicking. Every week we try to get better at one unit of our offense This week it was our passing game. Every week we will get better with passing and running the ball."

On getting the start and how it felt being out there on a consistent basis…

"I felt pretty good. In the Houston game I was able to get my legs underneath me. Every game I want to keep getting better. I talk to Kyle Cobia all the time and his spirits are up. He always gives me advice on my game and I'm sure he will have words for me when we get on the plane."

On the feeling of being a captain…

"That was amazing. It was one of the best feelings in my life. For the coaching staff to appoint me one of the leaders is great. That is something I have been trying to do since I got here. I am on the older guys and I want people to come to me regardless of what is going on."

QB Kyle Wright

On playing early in the game…

"We just were showcasing some things. I just wanted to go out there and make some plays."

On if it was different playing early in the game…

"It is going to be a little different. Obviously I was a little bit more excited this week. Every week I try to prepare as if I am the starter—that is all I can do."

On the potential big play on the pass to Tyrone Moss out of the backfield…

"It was something we have worked on. He was wide-open on the wheel route so I just tried to float it out there. It didn't work out, but that is okay. That stuff happens."

WR Roscoe Parrish

On the offensive play…

"We are just working hard out there. There are a lot of guys that are in and out of the lineup. The passing game came together today."

On the feeling of scoring two touchdowns…

"They felt real good. We have tried a lot of deep routes, but they haven't worked out the way we liked. We have a lot of receivers that can make the big play and luckily today we made some."

On if the receivers felt like they needed to step up with Ryan Moore out of the lineup…

"With Ryan in, it is even better."
