WR Falling Off UM's Radar?

Jessie Hester has battled the injury bug his entire prep career. He missed most of his junior season because of a leg injury and now he's been sidelined for a good part of his senior year because of an injury to his leg.

"I've missed the last three games," Hester said. "My stats are way down. Even when I was playing, our quarterback really wasn't throwing me the ball a whole lot. That's OK because we're winning games and that's what's important. Wellington (his former school) is about 2-5 right now."

The Glades Central standout said he's watched UM commitment Randy Phillips make an impact this season.

"Randy's having a great year," he said. "He didn't play last week because of a knee injury but he'll be back for the Pahokee game (next week). He's been doing great."

Hester, 6-0 and 165 pounds, was one of the state's most heavily recruited receivers early in the season. That's changed some in recent weeks.

"I dont know what happened but a lot of schools stopped calling," he said. "Maybe it's because of the injury, I don't know. Iowa is the one right now. They've offered, they call a lot, and I know I'm gonna be taking a visit there. They're my top choice right now. After them, I still hear from Florida, South Florida, and Northern Illinois."

Miami was a key player on the recruiting front early for Hester but that's changed.

"I did good at their camp and heard from them early on but they don't even call anymore," he said. "I guess they decided to go in another direction."
