UM Lands 12th Commitment

Just days after watching the Hurricanes win a national championship, Sarasota (Booker) defensive end Baraka Atkins decided to make it official when he announced to his decision to become a Hurricane on Sunday night. We have the entire interview.

"I'm going to Miami," Atkins said moments ago. "The next time Coach Kehoe calls, I'm going to tell him to make it official."

Atkins had narrowed his list down to Miami and Florida before making a final decision.

"Steve Spurrier leaving Florida helped me finalize it," he said. "That pretty much eliminated them. And I am going to cancel a visit to Ohio State that I had scheduled."

At 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, Atkins has been favoring the Canes ever since he was named the Defensive MVP of their summer camp back in June.

"I am really happy to be a Hurricane," he said. "It feels real good. I've always wanted to go there. They had a great season, and went out and controlled Nebraska in the Rose Bowl."

Atkins, who finished the season with 24 sacks, says he'll make his official visit to UM on Jan 25.
