Gavin Dickey Interview

Gavin Dickey is one of the state's top QB prospects and he talks about his recruiting status with the University of Miami and names his favorites in this indepth interview.

At 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds, Tallahassee (Lincoln) was one of the two winning quarterbacks from the CaliFlorida bowl last Wednesday.

"That was a lot of fun," Dickey said. "It was nice getting the chance to play with all those great players."

The talented signal-caller is now ready to focus on recruiting. He's already taken two visits and he's got some lined up for January.

"I went to Florida in late December," he said. "It was great. They have a real nice atmosphere there and despite Coach Spurrier leaving, I still love the Gators. I wasn't going to go there because of the coach, so that won't have an impact on my decision. Florida is the leader right now."

Dickey has also been to Notre Dame, but he says the Irish are pretty much out of it. "I haven't even talked with them in quite awhile," he said. "They must have other people in mind."

Dickey will take three straight visits in January before making a final decision.

"I leave for Clemson on Friday," he said. "They're kind of new. I really like my recruiting coach. He's been to my school for a few years in a row now and I have been talking to him more and more. Their offense is exactly what I'm looking for."

Dickey will then head to Miami, or will he?

"As of right now, I'm supposed to go to Miami on the 18th," he said. "But I don't know for sure. I haven't talked to them in awhile and they don't seem too serious right now. But I still like Miami and would like to visit them with Pat [Watkins] and Greg [Threat]."

Dickey then leaves for Southern Cal on Jan 25.

"Like I said, Florida's my leader, then it's Clemson and Southern Cal. That's my top three and that's probably who it will be out of."

Personally, it sounds to me like UM may be cooling on Dickey, especially with the recent developments in the Brock Berlin situation. After watching Dickey in person at the CaliFlorida bowl, I think he'd be a perfect fit for Clemson's offense, where he can become a Woody Dantzler type of player for them.
