The Friday Stock Report: 11/19

The Miami Hurricanes have dealt with numerous injuries this season. A number of players are currently injured and some have been lost for the season. In this week's edition of The Friday Stock Report, I focused on the top five key injuries this season.

5 Key Injuries in 2004

1. OL Eric Winston

Winston has the potential to be the best offensive tackle in the nation. Many have projected him to be a first-round draft pick and probably a top 10 pick. He has size (6-7, 310), speed, and athleticism. Also, he is known for being a bright player and is one of the leaders on the team. He suffered an ACL injury in the fourth game of the season against Georgia Tech causing the offensive line to shuffle to find a replacement.

Season Stats: 4 games-4 starts
Games Missed: 5

2. WR Ryan Moore

Moore was one of the best offensive players on the team last year as a freshman. He led the team in receiving yards with 637 while catching 44 passing for three touchdowns. He got out of the gate slowly to begin this season catching three passes for 17 yards. His ankle injury has been slow to heal, but he hopes to play on Saturday. When healthy, he gives the Hurricanes a threat to make plays after the catch, make key third-down conversions, and has shown he can go up and get the ball on the deep passes.

Season Stats: 3 games-2 starts, 3 catches, 17 yards
Games Missed: 6 games

3. QB Kyle Wright

Wright is counted on to be the starting quarterback in 2005 and the coaches wanted to get him some quality game experience this season. He played in mop-up duty against Louisiana Tech, but against Georgia Tech he came in for the third series of the game. The coaches planned on getting him regular work early in games until he sprained three ligaments in his ankle. He is slowly working himself back into the mix and he has been cleared to play this week.

Season Stats: 2 games, 5-for-9 passing, 30 yards
Games Missed: 4 games

4. OL Rashad Butler

Butler was projected to be the starting right tackle until he suffered an ankle injury in fall practices causing OL Chris Myers to move from right guard to right tackle. Myers began the season playing out of position waiting for Butler to get healthy, but with the injury to Winston he has remained at right tackle. Butler returned the same game Winston was hurt, but is now playing left tackle. He will be counted on heavily next season with the departure to Myers and senior Joel Rodriguez.

Season Stats: 6 games-5 starts
Games Missed: 3 games

5. CB Glenn Sharpe

Sharpe suffered an ACL injury last November and missed spring practices. He appeared ahead of schedule and practiced in the fall. Heading into the season he played in nickel and dime formations before his knee started to give him problems again. This time it just began to get sore and the coaching staff decided to shut him down for the season after the second game. He will receive a medical redshirt this year and will be fighting for a starting position next fall as a junior.

Season Stats: 2 games, 4 tackles, 1 passbreakup
Games Missed: 7 games
