Miami Hurricanes Vs. South Carolina State Bulldogs
November 23 – 7:30 PM
Convocation Center - Coral Gables, Florida
Radio: WQAM (560 AM)
The Miami Hurricanes play their second game of the season Tuesday, night against South Carolina State. After a close 67-64 win over Wofford College, Miami will take on the South Carolina State Bulldogs. A team that is very similar to Wofford, but maybe a little better. If the Hurricanes can win, it would mark the 6th consecutive season in which the Hurricanes started the season 2-0.
South Carolina State comes to Coral Gables with a 3-1 record on the season. The Bulldogs have posted wins over Alabama State, Jacksonville State, and Penn State. Their only loss came against Mississippi in the opening game of the BCA Classic. South Carolina State is the pre-season favorite to win the MEAC. They return all 5 starters from last season, including the reigning MEAC player of the year, Thurman Zimmerman 18.8 ppg and 8 rpg last season, and the MEAC rookie of the year, Brian Mason, 13.5 ppg.
Much like Wofford, South Carolina State is small in the front court. With the help of forwards Gary Hamilton and Anthony King, the Hurricanes dominated the boards against Wofford (57-32) and look to do the same against the Bulldogs.
Though Miami did have more rebounds than Wofford, they also committed more turnovers. The Hurricanes must remedy this problem if they expect to be in the game against the experienced and deep South Carolina State Bulldogs.
The Hurricanes can expect South Carolina State to run similar triangle and two defense that Wofford ran, in order to stymie guards Guillermo Diaz and Rob Hite. The triangle and two defense puts an emphasis on good point guard play, Anthony Harris can expect to have a lot of open looks.
With their experience and depth, don't be surprised if South Carolina State gives Miami a tough game. Zimmerman plays with a lot of effort and has an all around solid game. He will be one of the toughest players the Canes face all season.

"You watch Zimmerman on tape and he plays so well. He plays so low. He is only 6 foot 5, but that is the way you play when you are small. You play low, get the ball, and you attack people. I think he is a post player with perimeter skills. He has great hands and he has great balance."
Anthony Harris suffered a bruised leg at the end of the second half versus Wofford, but is expected to play. Forward Will Frisby is expected to play this game also after serving a one game suspension for violating team rules.
