Perhaps Too Late

Running back Kevin Harris is a football player. He's played nearly every position on the field and laughs when he reads various websites and recruiting magazines. "I've seen sites listing me as a quarterback," Harris said.

"It's funny sometimes. I'm definitely a running back."

Harris, who played on both sides of the ball as a junior, stayed on the offensive side of the ball at Sanford (Fla.) Seminole this season. In eight games (missed two because of an ankle injury that bothered him all season), Harris ran for just over 900 yards.

"Sandalwood knocked us out," he said. "We beat some good teams but lost some games we shouldn't have lost. Oh well, it's time to move on."

Harris, 6-2 and 220 pounds, is now focusing on weightlifting and is already looking forward to the start of track season. In the meantime, he's dealing with the recruiting process. After making an early commitment to Wake Forest, Harris has continued getting recruiting calls from various programs.

"Whenever the coaches call, I just tell them I'll consider them but that I'm still committed to Wake Forest," he said. "I just really like Coach Grobe and I like the direction in which they're headed. We're gonna be a young team but we have a lot of good kids coming in to help for the future."

One of the schools who has tried getting into the mix is Miami. He talked about that.

"Coach Soldinger from Miami offered me a scholarship," he said. "He offered me as a fullback and I really would like to get a chance to play tailback, like Wake Forest will provide. The thing about Miami is they have about 13 running backs already on the team. I'm not taking anything away from them because it's a great program and they murdered Wake on Saturday but I just wanna follow through with my commitment and see if we can get things turned around up there."

Harris is a full academic qualifier.
